10 interesting things that Rs. 31000 iPhone don’t have
August 22, 2008 by Ameya Pimpalgaonkar
Palnning to buy all new Apple iPhone, wait ! Have a look at this. 10 points why you should not buy iPhone .
- Thought you would record that party video on your iPhone? Sorry, iPhone will disappoint you here. It has no video recording option. This is quite surprising since video recording feature is today found in most cellphones, even those at the lower end.
-
There were speculations that Apple would go for a higher-resolution camera. However, 3G iPhone has disappointed as it has the same 2 megapixel (MP) camera. Flash and optical zoom are missing too.
-
This one is shocking! Of all things, one cannot simply forward a text message. Users can only send text messages or snapshots via email. Also, don’t think of sending a SMS to multiple contacts as iPhone has no option for that either.
-
Two other glaring ‘misses’ include lack of multimedia messaging controls and voice dialing. It lacks support for voice-recognition to let users dial verbally.
-
No cut, copy-and-paste has already drawn much ire from iPhone’s fans.
-
Also, it lacks support for multi-select. It will give users a tough time deleting every email one by one as they cannot delete mails in bulk. Same goes for photo albums.
-
All you heavy phone users, you cannot change an iPhone battery. You will have to send it to an Apple outlet for this.
-
iPhone offers no support for wireless modem. You may pay heavy data charges to activate Internet on your iPhone, but you cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home.
-
iPhone can’t sync with Bluetooth stereo or in-car Bluetooth handsfree. It lacks A2DP on Bluetooth. A2DP audio devices, such as stereo Bluetooth headsets, offer high quality listening ability.
-
Also, surprisingly it you cannot share MP3, images and video files via Bluetooth, half the fun is gone.
-
In case you wish to see those multimedia files that require Flash, you will have to do away with them.
-
Also, iPhone doesn’t offer the option of ringtone customisation. This means you cannot set SMS alert tones for your boss or say your best friend. Almost all cellphones have multiple profiles and option to edit or create more. However, the iPhone comes only with two options: ring or silent. Users cannot download ringtones from anywhere except iTunes.
I think Rs. 31000 iPhone is bad deal if you are looking for above mentioned functions.

Gosh! So much functionality is missing.i think this is the worse deal one can make. Apple has disappointed many gadget freaks like me..bye bye apple
hi ameya ! here is my similar views on iphone
i wrote in a forum….
!!! BEWARE OF BUYING iPhone 3G!!! Friends…..
those of you in India planning for iPhone…
THINK TWICEBEFORE MAKING A DECISION…
The short comings of iPhone are endless…·
No video calling,· No AD2P on the Bluetooth, (ie wireless stereo headset support)·
CAN’T share ANY (mp3, images, videos. …) files via bluetooth,· Can’t use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous datacharges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it toyour PC and browse when you are at home)·
No copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a…. say…. email& send it….have to type it out yourself)·
No 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries isworst camera i’ve ever seen….. photos look like they have come outof a VGA camera)· No video recording with camera,·
No front camera,· No flash.· No JAVA support·
No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is adealbreaker. ..touch keyboard as good as it looks…once you use itthen only you come to know about the importance of having a hardkeypad)·
No 3G network yet in India..so why pay for expensive 3Gphone if you cant use its 3G services … so, for India, iPhone 2.0 isno better than its first version· No removable battery. (You cannot change battery.
Have tosend it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!…This is not an iPod. Its abloody phone.
You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)·
No haptic feedback and· Cannot send MMS,· Can’t use as external storage device (16 GB of utterwaste..next time you go to your friend’s house & find some interestingsongs, movies, etc…sorry you cannot connect your ‘16 GB’ phone andshare it!!!!
Apple apparently has a solution.. ” BUY MUSIC & MOVIESFROM iTUNES STORE “…..
Give me a break will you APPLE!!!)· No FM radio,· Can’t use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)·
Cannot insert any other SIM card….· Completely tied to iTunes…
Connect to your friend’s iTunes& you risk erasing everything on your phone.· List goes on & on & on….
We Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already havethese features.
we cannot do with out them…. i mean can you imaginepaying so much for a phone with which you cannot transfer files viabluetooth.
what age is this …STONE AGE???Some features may be activated by jailbreak..
But why the hell shouldyou risk losing your warranty after paying so much.
And want to add third party softwares??. .
YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM FROMiTUNES STORE ONLY!!! . (Shell out more money).
Apple is a bloodycontrol freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it.Its good for american market (who have no idea what mobilefreedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/europeanmarkets.
When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to networkoperators and buy only those phones that are available on thatnetwork. & stick to that company till their contract expires.
You wantto change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phoneon the other network again.
On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handsetshops & buy which ever phone we like.
Then go to carriers.. checkoutthe plans & buy SIM..
Dont like the plan or rival carrier came up witha better plan???? EASY .. just remove & replace the SIM.
Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhonehas created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe .thats why Applenever talks about its sales in Europe).
Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone…
CHECKOUT THE DATA PLANATTACHED TO ITS SIM ..they will recover the cost through ridiculousdata plans.
Bill might come to around Rs 2500/month.( ATLEASTAMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH)Let me clear one thing though.. iphone is the best looking phone (itstouch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), best browsingexperience out there no doubt …. ( others are fast catchingup..check out the android demo at Google IO 2008)….
BUT AFTER A FEWDAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY. ..Those of who buy it…
You will be most happy for atmost a week…then, MARK MY WORDS…YOU WILL START REGRETTING IT!!!
My advice…Rather go for any of the Nokia Nseries phones !! (powered by Symbian). Still notconvinced by then…by all means go for iPhone….
