Bye bye kindle, Welcome Sony’s Reader Daily Edition
This December might bring a merrier time for you with the launch of Sony’s 3rd e-reader ‘Reader Daily Edition’ in Christmas holidays, but it would definitely give tough time to Amazon. After two successive launches of ‘Touch edition’ & ‘Pocket edition’, now, Sony is directly locking its horns with Amazon.
The new e-reader, priced at $399, will have 3G access completely free of cost but limited to Sony eBook store. AT & T will be providing this service for Sony. And, the 7inch touch screen with 16 levels of grayscale for better contrast will definitely attract more customers. The display can be used in both portrait & landscape mode, with the former displaying about 30-35 lines of text. Like Kindle, it will have E link Vizplex feature that emulates look of ink on paper.
Sony also formally announced the launch of its new library finder service- ‘eBook borrowing’. Yeah, sorry no browser, but the new service will enable you to check eBooks & other digital content from any public library for free. You will create a ‘Library card’ for paid eBooks. The eBook automatically deletes itself after 29 days, so no question of late fees. Though New York Times is strategic partner, Sony has made tie-ups with host of eBook sellers - . Users can get more than 1 million eBooks from Google.
Sony’s e-reader will have on board support for ‘pdf’, ‘word’ & any other text formats. No need of conversion unlike Kindle. It has enough internal memory to store around 1000 eBooks & for additional books it does support for memory card.
If one is to believe rumors Apple is close to launch Apple Tablet. It is speculated to have a 10inch screen with touch screen (of course) functionality. Basically, it would be an entertainment portal or larger ipod with more multimedia support & added support for eBooks. Until Apple formally announces & gives nightmare to both Sony & Amazon, look out for Sony’s ‘Reader Daily Edition’.

Nice article Alpesh, especially, the library finder service is quiet interesting. However, I think $399 is a bit high compared to other e-readers as one gets a facility to browse internet at the same price in case of kindle & some others. Neverthless, I would like to read more on apple tablet. Hope to see more article form you.
