Increase torrent download speed and protect against waste data

Submitted by ameya on July 28, 2010 – 12:43 am No Comment

Many of us use torrentz for downloading stuff like latest games, TV shows or a movie. However, if you’ve observed, there’s a lot of waste data downloaded and discarded by torrent client. You waste bandwidth in downloading the useless data and thereby reduce the speed of download. This happens majorly because fake peers sending useless data that slow down the download.  So how to achieve good speedy download with a protection from waste data?

Following are the 4 ways to do it:

  • Use IP Filtering. Before we activate this filter, we need to retrieve a list of currently known Anti-P2P organization IPs, which can be downloaded from Bluetack http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/nipfilter.dat.gz
  • This list is updated almost daily. Extract and rename the original filename to “ipfilter.dat”. Place the renamed ipfilter.dat file in %AppData%\uTorrent. Go to Start -> Run and type %AppData%\uTorrent at the box. Click Ok button and a folder will appear.
  • Start µTorrent and go into preferences –> click on “Advanced”. In the right hand pane, make sure that “ipfilter.enable” is set to true, and then close the dialog.
  • You can verify that the list has been loaded by looking under the “Logging” tab of µTorrent, where you should see the line “Loaded ipfilter.dat

With this, you are sure that fake peers won’t be able to track your IP and send to Recording Industry Association of America or Motions Pictures. Stay safe!
