Road ahead for SAP Netweaver developers
Having worked on SAP Netweaver for more than 3 years now, I think I am eligible enough to write this article. Netweaver has evolved beyod imagination in these 3 years. Earlier when we used to say Netweaver, some of the development domains like WebDynpro, Portal (Popularly known earlier as EP), Visual Composer, Web Page Composer and more. However, now, almost every module is part of SAP Netweaver, some or the other way. Either they will have a specially developed Business Package or like MDM or SRM, they will have a thin client designed specially for web exposure.
If you are also one of the Netweaver Consultants and contemplating about the road ahead, all you need to do is, keep your pace with latest developments in the Netweaver space.

SOA: It’s one of those topics much discussed and writen these days. Netweaver has gone beyond the simple webservice model to give cloud computing that facilitates sharing of infrastructure. As a Netweaver consultant, you need to at least know what I am talking about.
BPM: Also called as Business Process Management. Earlier, BPM was a separate was looking after only by business analysts and some times functinal consultants. Now, BPM has extended its hands to Netweaver by inegrating commonly known guided procedures or say a workflow. Having said that, I feel there is still some time for BPM development to be everydays task for netweaver developers.
Basis Consultant to Netweaver Administration Consultant: Over the years, SAP has also moved some part of basis practice into netweaver umbrella. You will easily spot Basis guys doing portal Admin work these days. Portal Admin can blame it on SAP for moving their cheese.
New modules like MDM, SRM has also featuring web clients for easy transactions, material creation and increasing user experience by providing easily deployable Business Packages or Add-ons.
As SAP is constantly stressing in its road map, that ABAP will not get absolete, netweaver people still have a lot to facous and acquire. I feel, A typical netweaver consultant should know at least on of the above mentioned practices or at least penchant towards learning. Gone are the days when a simple webdynpro or portal consultant is termed as Netweaver consultant. Now you are expected to know more, deliver more and learn more.
